Oral Surgeon Near Kingwood TX
If you are looking for an oral surgeon near Kingwood Tx, Dr. Holly Gregory has state of the art, hospital grade, oral surgery rooms right in her office. In addition, she offers, depending on the patient’s wishes or the type of procedure being performed, several levels of sedation. Patients can literally sleep through the entire process!
One of the most common surgical procedures done in her office is Sinus Augmentation or Sinus Elevation.
Dental implants are essentially an artificial tooth root which is attached to the jaw bone… like your real teeth. It is on this implant that a replacement tooth, bridge, denture or overdenture will be firmly attached. Only in this way can you restore complete function for a missing tooth. The most important piece of the implant is the bone in which the implant will be placed. If the implant is to go in certain ares of the upper jaw where bone has been lost due to injury or periodontal disease, a sinus augmentation is how the sinus floor can be raised. This will allow for the implant to have enough bone structure to be a firm foundation for a new crown or denture. This type of procedure is performed by Dr. Holly Gregory DDS, an oral surgeon near Kingwood Tx
The most common sinus augmentation technique requires a very small incision to be made to expose the jawbone. A small opening is cut into the bone and the membrane lining the sinus on the other side of the opening is gently pushed upward. That space is then filled with bone graft material and the incision is closed. The bone which is used for a sinus augmentation procedure may be from your own body or from a cadaver. Sometimes synthetic materials may be used instead of bone which can also stimulate bone formation by your own body. The implants are placed after healing and proper new bone density has occurred. This can take several months. Once this oral surgery has occurred and healing has completed, your new dental implant can be placed.
