Teeth Whitening

One of the fastest and most striking things you can do to improve the appearance of your smile is to whiten your teeth. There are many methods available to patients to whiten, each with various levels of success.

Toothpastes generally whiten with abrasives that can damage your enamel and cause recession of gum tissue. Home bleach strips typically cause only minor changes even after a month of use and don’t whiten well in between the teeth, leaving staining between teeth that can be more noticeable after bleaching with strips than it was before.

Professional bleaching commonly done has consisted of custom trays that are made in the dentist’s office combined with in-office procedures that use heat and light to accelerate bleaching results. These trays made in the dentist’s office adapt better than store-bought strip will but they aren’t molded with lab accuracy to protect delicate gum tissue from being burned. The light and heat used in the office can dehydrate the tooth surface and damage nerves inside the tooth, leading in some cases to intense tooth sensitivity and even pain.

Dr. Gregory utilizes her own professional bleaching technique with lab-fabricated trays that intimately adapt to the gums and protect that delicate tissue from damage. For her in-office bleaching, she uses a series of bleaching gels and tooth surface treatments that can conveniently be placed in a single visit and do not require damaging heat or lights. This treatment can lead to absence of post-procedure sensitivity while intensely whitening and brightening the patient’s smile in a single appointment. Attention to details like these makes a huge difference.
