Dentist In Humble Tx: Types Of Dental Bridges

When a person loses a tooth or gets it extracted, a gap is created inside the mouth, which can lead to different problems. First off, since a space has been left, the remaining teeth can possibly drift and shift. As a result, one’s bite can be affected. This can also cause pain and soreness in the jaw, which in turn can cause the adjacent teeth to experience excessive wear. When the remaining teeth start drifting, this can cause a person to be at risk for both gum disease and tooth decay because it gives more room for plaque to build.

In order to avoid the these problems and to restore their smile back to its original brightness and life, people opt to get their missing teeth replaced by a dental bridge. Among all of the teeth replacement options available, dental implants would be a very good and economical option among the many available.  A dental bridge in Humble TX basically serves as a more economical alternative treatment option to dental implants.

A dental bridge is a false tooth that’s custom-made for patients who are missing a tooth or a number of teeth in order to restore their natural looking smile. This is anchored onto the adjacent teeth of the missing tooth. There are several types of dental bridges made from a variety of materials. The type of dental bridge that’s going to be used will depend on the location of the missing tooth that needs to be replaced which your Humble Tx dentist, Dr. Gregory can discuss with you once she has seen and assessed your situation.

Maryland Bridge

This is used to replace the front teeth because they don’t get much pressure applied to them compared to the back teeth, which are mainly responsible for most of the chewing. This is a resin bonded bridge that has metal or porcelain wings, which are attached to the artificial tooth that are bonded to the adjacent teeth situated on either side of the gap left by the missing tooth.

Fixed Bridge

This is used to fill a gap by connecting an artificial tooth between two dental crowns. The dental crowns are used to support the dental bridge and are cemented in place onto the adjacent teeth of the gap. This makes the artificial tooth look and feel natural in the gapped space. A fixed bridge is not removable.

Cantilever Bridge

This is also secured in place by being bonded to an adjacent tooth just like what’s done for a fixed dental bridge. However, this is only bonded to a single tooth and is used when there aren’t teeth on both sides of the gap.
