Humble Dentist Adds New Services To Practice

Here is a story that appeared on Oct 21st 2017 in Voyage Houston magazine. The article explains recent changes at Houston Dental Implants, Family Dentistry, Oral Surgery, and Periodontics that allow Dr. Gregory to offer not only her surgical services but to offer all dental services in one family-owned practice location. The article appears online in Voyage Houston’s online magazine here.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Gregory.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Holly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I attended college at Texas A&M University where I graduated with 4.0 in the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry. I went to dental school at Baylor in Dallas and graduated first in my class. After that, I attended the University of Texas Health Science Center surgery residency and became board certified upon completion, an additional certification process that not all surgeons opt to go through. When I was a teenager, I danced with the Houston Ballet and lived here for several years. I practiced in San Antonio for a time before moving to Houston and buying a small surgery practice from a doctor who was retiring.

Over the last ten years, that small practice has grown to become the family of patients that I look forward to treating every day. I was one of the first surgeons in my area to offer the use of lasers in my practice for the non-invasive, incision-free treatment of oral infection. I have worked to pioneer dental implant techniques, including options available for full mouth dental implants that are comfortable, stable, affordable, cleanse-able, inexpensive to maintain, and beautiful. This year I will be the first in Houston to utilize software that allows for laser-scanning a patient’s mouth (no goopy impression material) and designing and milling computer-generated restorations, prosthetics, and appliances, both on dental implants and on natural teeth. This allows some patients to have their final teeth delivered in a single treatment appointment, reducing the time off from work and removing any time spent in temporary appliances or uncomfortable dentures.

I have a family and cosmetic dentist that works with me who offers patients full family dentistry and works with me to accomplish needs in some cases in a single visit under sedation. We see children and adults for regular cleanings, x-rays, fillings, crowns, and root canals. We also see patients for high-end esthetic work including clear braces (Invisalign), veneers, and full mouth smile makeovers.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I bought the practice in Houston from the doctor who was retiring, the existing office space and much of the equipment was outdated. I built a brand new facility near Memorial Hermann Hospital Northeast where my initial office was located. My new facility has an in-office CAT scan, digital low dose radiographs, outpatient rooms that are comfortable for sedation with my in-house anesthesiologist, laser treatment available in every patient treatment room, and creature comforts like flat screen televisions on every patient treatment chair and memory foam dental chairs. Our patients deserve the best!

Please tell us about Houston Dental Implants, Family Dentistry, Oral Surgery, and Periodontics.
I am a board-certified surgeon and I practice full-service oral surgery and periodontal surgery including extraction of teeth, placement of single and multiple dental implants, treatment of gum infection, and partial mouth/full mouth dental implant rehabilitation.

As a specialist, I am trained appropriately for these surgeries and the management of a full scope of treatment options, techniques, and technologies available to get the best results. Many family dentists are offering these procedures in their offices these days, and the concern there lies with the amount of training required for surgery. If extractions are performed poorly or implants are not placed appropriately, many times the results can be catastrophic in the sense that the lost tissue cannot be re-grown and loss of nerve sensation cannot be recovered, resulting in oral deformities and/or numbness. It’s worth it to see a board certified surgeon when it comes to surgery to help avoid potential complications.

The family dentist in my Humble Tx office specializes in complex cosmetic cases but treats children and adults for routine dental concerns as well.

I am most proud of the way we treat patients like family. They are the reason we do what we do.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have gotten a partner sooner. It was a challenge to manage patients alone. I have four small kids, ages 8 years, 4 years, 2 years and 8 months. It’s a relief to offer patients not only my surgical services but to offer all dental services in one family-owned practice location.
